Sotheby's announced its latest NFT charity auction Monday in partnership with nonprofit Sostento.
The Sotheby's Metaverse auction, titled Gifted: The 140 Collection, will donate proceeds directly to the charitable organization to support frontline public health workers in efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and opioid overdose crisis.

"On June 30th, 2021, Twitter unexpectedly tweeted to its 60 million plus followers '140 free NFTs for 140 of you, besties,' and thus, The 140 Collection was born," the statement from Sotheby's said.
"Seven unique NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, available in editions of 20 were given away randomly to users who replied. The NFTs illustrated the many facets of Twitter, from the first iterations of its logo to its 140-character limit. Now, seven of those lucky strangers have united to sell a full set of seven NFTs with proceeds going towards Sostento, an organization that gives vital support to frontline public health workers."
Sotheby's Metaverse was launched last month to host all of its NFT sales, making it the first auction house with its own marketplace exclusively for NFTs.
Sotheby's will join the 'besties' in donating a portion of proceeds.
Funds raised from the auctions will be processed by the Giving Block, a partner of Sostento that helps charitable organizations, universities and religious groups adopt and accept crypto donations.
